Lead Team

The platform is led by an interdisciplinary, intersectoral and diverse team consisting of over 70 individuals including internationally recognised scientists (from fields such as innovative trial design, behavioural medicine, health behaviour change, clinical medicine, medical education, health communication, health services research, implementation science, knowledge synthesis, sex and gender-based research, and biostatistics), governmental workers, practicing HCPs, policy makers, patient and community members, medical associations, and representatives from industry.

These individuals come from fifteen academic institutions and healthcare centres/networks, eight medical associations/networks, and six government, not-for-profit and industry partners, all of whom have a long history of successful collaboration.

Principal Team Members

Dr. Angela Alberga - Concordia University: FRQS Chercheur-Boursier, Concordia University Research Chair, and Director of the Montreal Interdisciplinary Laboratory on Obesity and Health.

Dr. Alberga is the Platform’s EDI Champion and co-chairs the EDI Committee. She is also a member of the International Platform Advisory and Executive Committees, as well as being a mentor.

Dr. Simon Bacon - Concordia University and Integrated University Health and Social Services Centre (CIUSSS) for Nord-de-l’île de Montréal: CIHR-SPOR Mentoring Chair in Innovative, Patient-Oriented, Behavioural Clinical Trials and FRQS co-Chair in AI and Digital Health

Dr. Bacon is the lead for the CBITN and will be responsible for the overall delivery of the Platform, as well as being the Quebec Lead, Chairing the Executive Committee, and being a mentor.

Dr. Tavis Campbell - University of Calgary: Director of the Behavioural Medicine Lab and former Director of Clinical Training [Clinical Psychology]

Dr. Campbell is a member of the Executive Committee, and a platform mentor.

Dr. Linda Carlson - University of Calgary: Enbridge Research Chair in Psychosocial Oncology, CIHR SPOR Mentorship Chair in Innovative Clinical Trials, President, Society for Integrative Oncology

Dr. Carlson is the CBITN’s Western Canada lead, a member of the Executive Committee, and a mentor.

Dr. Jennifer Gordon - University of Regina: Canada Research Chair in the Biopsychosocial Determinants of Women’s Mental Health

Dr. Gordon is the CBITN’s Gender and Sex-Based Analysis (GSBA) Champion as well as the co-Chair of the EDI Committee, a member of the Executive Committee, and a mentor.

Dr. Mary Jung - University of British Columbia: Associate Professor; Director of the Diabetes Prevention Research Group and Small Steps for Big Changes)

Dr. Jung is a member of the Executive Committee and a platform mentor.

Dr. Kim Lavoie - Université du Québec à Montréal and Integrated University Health and Social Services Centre (CIUSSS) for Nord-de-l’île de Montréal: Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Behavioural Medicine

Dr. Lavoie is the CBITN’s co-lead, the French-language program lead, Chair of the Curriculum Committee, and a member of the Executive Committee. She is also mentor for French speaking mentees.

Dr. Locke is the CBITN’s Ontario Lead, a member of the Mentee Committee, and a mentor.

Dr. Justin Presseau - Ottawa Hospital Research Institute/University of Ottawa: Core faculty, Centre for Implementation Research at the Ottawa Hospital, Scientific Lead for Knowledge Translation, Ottawa Methods Centre, and Chair of the Health Psychology and Behavioural Medicine Section, Canadian Psychological Association

Dr. Presseau is the CBITN’s Ontario Lead, the Implementation Science lead, a member of the Executive Committee, and is a platform mentor.

Dr. Joshua Rash - Memorial University: Assistant Professor, Advisor for the Atlantic Mentorship Network - Pain & Addictions, Senior Research Fellow in the Center for Health Policy and Inequalities Research (CHPIR) at Duke University

Dr. Rash is the CBITN’s Eastern Canada Lead, a member of the Mentee Committee, and is a platform mentor.
