  • Access Alliance Multicultural Community & Health Services

    Access Alliance Multicultural Health and Community Services is a community-based organization dedicated to improving health outcomes and promoting the well-being of newcomers. Internships have focused on the areas of mental health, nutrition, and fitness, providing mentees with an understanding of the challenges faced by marginalized populations, and ways of addressing these, through the development of skills such as research and literature reviews, and synthesizing and translating knowledge to engage with various stakeholders and community members.

  • BC Centre on Substance Use (BCCSU)

    The BCCSU places emphasis on research to generate evidence-informed strategies, while harnessing clinical guidance and training to ensure that evidence is implemented into clinical practice in every part of the province. Interns have been able to support the implementation and conduct of pilot randomized controlled trials, and thus build an understanding of the steps required to translate findings from trials to behavioural interventions in public health.

  • BC Mental Health Services and Systems Lab

    BC MHSSL conducts many projects with the aim to improve the understanding of mental health and substance use disorders, with a key focus on the design, implementation and evaluation of digital tools. In this respect, interns have conducted systematic literature reviews and data analyses to help support planning and implementation based on needs-assessment, to identify prevalence rates and characteristics of affected populations, and to consolidate findings to support stakeholder meetings with key decision-makers and policy makers.

  • ECR Nutrition/University of Ottawa

    ECR Nutrition provides an experience for interns to develop skills in sports nutrition consultation, and to develop their ability to communicate dietary concerns and key information with specific athletic populations. Previously, mentees have had the opportunity to consult on the development of media aiming to change dietary behaviours (e.g., social media posts), and assessment of message inclusivity. Interns have the chance to enhance their professional network through collaboration with sports dieticians, coaches, etc., and competitive athletes directly.

  • Minimol Health Corp. (AmpHealth)

    Interns working with Amp Health have assisted in the development of a digital health intervention, where they have the opportunity to collaborate with people with lived experience and other professionals in the field. They have learned to apply behavioural intervention theories to create directed messaging to clinical populations to encourage engagement with the app and behaviour change support.

  • MUN Behavioural Medicine Centre

    MUN Behavioural Medicine Centre has provided an opportunity for interns to connect with interdisciplinary healthcare professionals delivering care for those living with pain, mental health, and substance use concerns. In collaboration with field experts, they have helped identify the determinants of successfully implementing the Adaptive Mentorship Network, supporting multidisciplinary practitioners in navigating these clinical complexities.

  • Newfoundland Health Services (HOPE Program)

    The Newfoundland Health Services HOPE (Healthy Opportunities for People with Eating Disorders) Program is an adult outpatient eating disorder treatment program. It provides an excellent opportunity to work closely with an interdisciplinary team of professionals, including nurses, psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists, clinical dietitians, physiotherapists, medical practitioners, and psychiatrists. Internship responsibilities have focused on the development of a comprehensive program evaluation framework, from design to implementation.

  • Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust (Suicide Prevention)

    The Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust has permitted students to work closely on digital health technologies to support mental health, such as updating and enhancing a mobile application designed to support safety planning interventions for suicide prevention. This opportunity allows mentees to collaborate directly with people with lived experience and a variety of clinicians in both Canada and England.

  • Roth | McFarlane Hand and Upper Limb Centre

    Roth McFarlane HULC specializes in clinical care and research in upper limb health. Interns had the experience of a multidisciplinary team of orthopaedic surgeons, hand therapists, and researchers, to help develop their understanding of how clinical research can inform treatment outcomes. Mentees have had the opportunity to shadow work in ongoing clinical trials and support current and new studies through patient recruitment, ensuring the integrity of clinical records, observing and administering follow up questionnaires, developing patient rapport, as well as evaluating rehabilitation protocols.

  • SABI Mind (Mental Health, Chronic Pain, Psychedelics)

    Internships with SABI Mind aim to help develop understanding of the key principles and methodologies for offering psychedelic-assisted therapies for patients with mental health and chronic pain conditions. Mentees have had the opportunity to assist in business operations of a private clinic, marketing, research analyses and clinical shadowing, with access to the experience of medical doctors, nurses, medical and administrative staff.

  • Scleroderma Patient-centered Intervention Network (Health Research)

    The Australian Partnership Prevention Centre focuses on population health through prevention, offering opportunities to learn about the integration of both research evaluation and real-world implementation of evidence-based services and initiatives. Internship responsibilities vary by project, but previously, mentees have developed skills in the design, implementation and dissemination of digital health interventions, communicating information, and evaluating patient perspectives.

  • University of Manitoba College of Nursing

    An internship with the University of Manitoba College of Nursing permitted mentees to work directly with clinical populations and nursing staff in an inpatient setting. Interns learned how to use qualitative research in intervention development and to understand the application of evidence-based frameworks, through knowledge synthesis tasks such as scoping reviews, survey design, creating knowledge translation products, etc., and through technical skills such as developing and navigating multi-site ethics applications.
